The Canary Islands Guide is very much a guide for tourists rather than a pilot book, but as such it has the information for a touring yachtsman to enjoy these islands.
For such a small country The Netherlands has an amazing 6,000km of navigable waterways and there is something there for everyone.
The revised edition of the Arctic and Northern Waters Pilot is a compelling volume that takes the reader into waters that few will travel, for those who go there it is essential reading.

A Sixth Edition of the RCCPF Atlantic Islands Pilot has just been published by Imray. It is reviewed by Alan Spriggs (RCC) below.
This is the 7th edition of this well-known and popular book. There is much that is new in this edition, all beautifully explored and explained.
David and Susie Baggaley lived in Menorca for over a decade and cruised these islands extensively.
Their detailed knowledge and love of the Baleares shines through this new edition. The 30-page introduction to the area covers all the main requirements for not only the experienced but also the novice yachtsman and those new to these islands.
In particular the more significant changes since the last edition five years ago are well covered – more mooring buoys, anchoring restrictions and the protection of the Posidonia sea grass. Registration for booking Ports IB berthing – essential for all yachts below 15m – is well covered. The main body of the book, covering the anchorages and harbours, is expanded to give some history of the islands and key places to visit – thus being more than just a pilot. The descriptions of harbours and anchorages are accompanied by both sketch plans and some excellent photographs, many by Susie.
The major attraction of these islands is the huge number of delightful anchorages. David and Susie have discovered a number which we have yet to explore in a dozen years sailing the area.
An essential cruising stopover is the island of Cabrera. The Pilot gives detailed instructions for logging in and reserving a buoy here – we have met a number of cruisers deeply confused by this process. Again reflecting on recent changes, the chaos and uncertainty of the moorings in Mahon is well explained and up to date – at least until this year!
Overall this is an essential book – not just a pilot – for anyone cruising these delightful islands.
